Finally, the tight end news we’ve all been waiting for. The San Francisco 49ers announced they have activated George Kittle from the Active/PUP list.

That’s meaningful news for a plethora of reasons. One being the 49ers activated Kittle before Sunday morning’s practice. Kittle’s positivity a week ago should’ve eliminated any fears of him missing meaningful games. Seven days later, after receiving good news in the middle of the week, Kittle will return to practice.

One of Kittle’s biggest concerns was not having enough practice time ahead of Week 1 to get into football shape. Kittle should be able to get in close to double-digit practices in before the 49ers play the Los Angeles Rams.

Again, it’s not the end of the world if he needs another week with the game being in Australia, but the fact that Week 2 is realistic makes you appreciate Kittle attacking his rehab and putting himself in a position to play this early in the season.

Kittle tore his Achilles the second week of January. It was a unique tear because it occurred higher up, rather than lower near the heel. It’s still incredible that he has a shot to play in September.

Christian McCaffrey also returned to practice on Sunday. The 49ers will have their top three running backs on the practice field with Jordan James returning on Saturday for the first time in roughly three weeks.
