GIRLS VOLLEYBALLBattle of the Valley

MENASHA - Fox Valley Lutheran took first place at the season-opening tournament at The Barn, while Xavier finished second.

Fox Valley Lutheran finished with a 4-0 record. The Foxes beat Ashwaubenon 25-14, 25-20, beat Brillion 26-24, 25-23, beat Oconto Falls 17-25, 25-23, 19-17 and then defeated Xavier 25-19, 27-25.

Alaina Patchett had 32 kills, 23 digs, six blocks and four aces for FVL. Alaina Retzlaff had 20 kills, 15 digs, five blocks and two aces. Hayden Massonet had 54 assists and four aces, while Emily Matthias had 44 digs.

Xavier finished with a 3-1 record. The Hawks beat Little Chute 25-16, 25-15, Waupun 25-11, 25-20 and Appleton East 25-23, 25-18 before losing to FVL.

Rose Kendall had 20 kills, 11 digs, nine blocks and six aces for Xavier. Raya Zurfluh had 56 assists, 13 digs and seven aces. Lily Renz had 15 digs and 14 aces. Bella Daley had 13 kills and six aces.

Other Xavier leaders were Lexi Allen with 12 kills, Hope Kaufman with 26 digs, Taelyn Kiepert with 21 digs, Allie Gioffredi with 12 kills and eight blocks, Kayla Fournillier with eight kills and Helayana Krueger with four kills.

Oconto Falls placed third, Appleton East was fourth, Brillion was fifth, Manitowoc Lutheran was sixth, Howards Grove placed seventh, Little Chute was eighth, Ashwaubenon was ninth, Waupun was 10th, Wrightstown placed 11th and Chilton was 12th.

Oconto Falls went 2-0 in pool play, defeating Chilton 25-15, 25-12 and Howards Grove 25-19, 25-17 to advance to the Gold Bracket. In the Gold Bracket, Fox Valley Lutheran beat Oconto Falls 25-17, 23-25, 19-17. The Panthers bounced back to finish with a 25-16, 25-23 victory over Appleton East to earn third place.

Izzy Otto had 64 assists and 10 aces for Oconto Falls. Lucy Ripley had 33 kills, eight aces and six block kills. Calli Bursa had 18 kills, 25 digs and six aces. Rhianna VanDeYacht added 14 kills and 22 digs, while Brylee Gorman had 13 kills and three block kills.

Notre Dame Quadrangular

GREEN BAY - Notre Dame finished with a 3-0 record as the Tritons beat New London 25-16, 25-13, beat Menasha 25-14, 25-17 and defeated Oshkosh North 25-14, 25-18.

Hadley Stenavich had 33 total kills and hit .577 on the night for Notre Dame.

Neenah Quadrangular

NEENAH - Luxemburg-Casco finished 1-3 at the event. Bay Port defeated the Spartans 21-25, 25-9, 15-10, before Fond du Lac posted a 25-27, 25-19, 15-11 win. Luxemburg-Casco downed Pulaski 19-25, 25-17, 15-12, before losing to Neenah 22-25, 25-19, 15-13.

Leading the Spartans statistically were Claire Schleis with 54 assists, 22 kills and 16 digs; Stella Schleis with 38 assists and 15 digs; Aubrey Frey with 55 kills, 26 digs, five blocks and seven aces; and Jenna Annoye with 31 digs.

“While we’re disappointed going 1-3 on the night, we showed a lot of growth from match one to match four,” Luxemburg-Casco coach Jeff Frey said. “We have a lot of work to do to get to where we want and need to be, but I liked how we battled. We have a lot of people new to positions and there is going to be growing pains, but I loved the fight and grit we showed.”

SPASH Invitational

STEVENS POINT - The NEW Lutheran Blazers went 3-1 at the SPASH Invitational.

In pool play, NEW Lutheran beat Reedsville 25-20, 25-13 and lost to Northland Pines 25-22, 23-25, 9-15.

In the Silver Division, NEW Lutheran beat Wisconsin Rapids 25-18, 25-21 and Berlin 25-13, 25-13.

Kiley Dhein had 15 kills and 28 digs for NEW Lutheran. Olivia Kirchner had 46 assists, Paige Loock had 11 kills and 11 aces, Hailey Monfre had 16 kills and Meredith Lemke-Scott finished with 26 digs.

Crivitz Invitational

CRIVITZ - Florence, Crivitz and Peshtigo went 4-0, 3-1 and 2-2 to finish first, second and third, respectively.

Other competing teams included Niagara, Mercer, Green Bay Southwest, Goodman-Pembine, Marinette and Gibraltar.

Marli Meyers led Crivitz with 23 kills. She also had 18 digs and 17 aces. Haili Dorschner had 44 assists while Kayle Thoreson had 24 assists. Kiya Brand had a double-double with 26 digs and 14 kills. Izzy Wesoloski had 13 digs. Brecken Ott had 11 kills.

BOYS SOCCERGreen Bay Preble 0, Kimberly 0

KIMBERLY - The Papermakers outshot the Hornets 6-5, but the teams played to a draw in nonconference play.

Quinn Collett made six saves in net for Kimberly.

“[We] had a pretty tough match tonight against Green Bay Preble,” Papermakers coach Carl Gardner said. “They are a very good side and should do well throughout the season. Our boys are young, but energetic and work hard.”

Elijah Alexander made four saves in goal for the Hornets.

Fox Valley Lutheran 1, Pulaski 1

APPLETON - The Foxes got a goal from Ezra Schaser as Fox Valley Lutheran and the Red Raiders played to a draw.

Jose Martinez assisted on Schaser’s goal for FVL, while Eric Techlin had six saves.

Pulaski’s goal was scored by Walker Wozniak with Daenen Kehoe assisting.

Blake Batzer had one save in goal for Pulaski, which had six shots on goal to three for Fox Valley Lutheran.

Hortonville 3, West De Pere 1

HORTONVILLE - The Polar Bears took a 2-0 lead in the first half and went on to defeat the Phantoms in the season opener for both teams.

Roman Glad, Evan Langkan and Ben Diedrich each scored for Hortonville.

Fenton Hirschi and Langkan each had an assist.

DENMARK - The Vikings scored four goals in each half in their win over the Storm.

Gibraltar 3, Wrightstown 0

FISH CREEK - The Vikings scored twice in the first half and once in the second in the win over the Tigers.

Howards Grove 8, Algoma 3

ALGOMA - The Tigers overwhelmed the Wolves in the second half, outscoring Algoma 6-1 to pull away for the victory.
