Aug. 19—,and the rest of their teammates on the Brazil senior women's basketball national team have played two games at this week's FIBA Pre-Olympic qualifying tournament. and Team Canada have played just one game so far.
The tournament got underway on Monday in Guadalajara, Mexico.
It's an important week as these eight national teams look to take the first major step toward qualifying for the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Canada, which is considered the favorite to finish atop Group B, won its opening game 72-57 against Senegal on Monday at the Arena Astros. Parchment saw limited action with the 6-foot-3 Illinois women's basketball team forward playing just three minutes and finishing 0 of 2 from the field while pulling down one rebound.
Canada will next face the Philippines at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Brazil, meanwhile, lost its opening game in Group A play, a 63-61 defeat to South Sudan. This despite a big game from Guyton as the 5-7 Illini junior guard produced a team-high 20 points on 7 of 15 shooting with three rebounds and three assists in nearly 26 minutes on the floor. Vasconcelos added six rebounds (with zero points) as the 6-7 Illinois redshirt junior center logged 14-plus minutes.
Brazil followed that up, however, with a 56-53 victory against New Zealand on Tuesday in what was basically a must-win game. Guyton again led her team with 18 points (5 of 15 from the field) in 34 minutes, 23 seconds on the floor and also supplied four rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Vasconcelos had three points and two assists in 10:37 of game action.
Brazil will wrap up group play at 1 p.m. on Thursday against Argentina. All four teams in Group A are tied with three points apiece with one game each to play. The top two teams in each group advance to Saturday's semifinals. The final takes place on Sunday.
