Minnesota Lynx fans watched Olivia Miles writhing in pain towards the end of the game against the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday. Moments earlier, Miles had stepped on Napheesa Collier’s foot as she looked to contain a drive by Valkyries guard Veronica Burton.

The Lynx court general did not return to the game. As fans await word on her status, they took to social media to express their concern.

“Right before the playoffs. I hope to God this isn’t a serious injury,” one fan tweeted.

Miles finished the game with 20 points, five rebounds, and seven assists. Despite the absence of their starting point guard, the Lynx went on to win the game 77-66.

Coincidentally, fans had been raving over an ankle-breaking sequence from Miles just a minute earlier. At the 5:38 mark of the fourth quarter, Miles went behind the back, putting Janelle Salaün on skates, before planting her feet firmly behind the 3-point line and getting an outside shot to go.

The league-leading Lynx have clinched a spot in this year’s playoffs, but there are concerns over Miles’ status as the postseason draws near.

“Utterly Captivating Player”: Podcaster Heaps Praise on Olivia Miles as Sensational Rookie Year Continues

One analyst who sang Olivia Miles’ praises earlier in the game was podcaster Owen Pence, who described his personal experience watching the Lynx rookie.

“You can’t get up from the couch to go get a snack if Olivia Miles is on the floor. Can’t look at your phone. Utterly captivating player. What a joy to have her in the league.”

Though Miles’ injury dampened her showcase of talent on Wednesday, she continues to rack up statistical feats in her first year with the Lynx. According to ESPN’s Kendra Andrews, Miles has now surpassed A’ja Wilson and Paige Bueckers to become No. 3 on the all-time WNBA rookie scoring list.
