‘I was appalled’: Lt. Governor does not hold back on ‘woman-on-woman’ violence between Enes Kanter and Natasha Cloud

Sunday night’s Chicago Sky-Indiana Fever game had plenty of fireworks; unfortunately, they weren’t all about the electric basketball being played on the floor. In a game where Fever superstar Caitlin Clark scored 37 points and dished out 10 assists, the story that dominated headlines coming out of the game was a verbal altercation on the baseline between Enes Kanter Freedom and Sky guard Natasha Cloud.

After the exchange, in which the two had to be separated by the Sky coaching staff and arena security, Kanter appeared on Fox News to give his side of the story.

“Towards the end of the third quarter Sophie Cunningham shot a three and um I put my hands up to celebrate right and literally uh a couple possessions later Natasha came back and starts screaming and yelling and said, ‘she’s not gonna sleep with you,’ and I was like, I am not trying to sleep with her, I’m just here to protect women and support her,” Kanter said.

“She started to walk towards me,” he added, “and literally I just got up, and then I was like, ‘I’m just here to protect women, and that’s all,’ right, and then she started to yell; she started to, uh, use some very heavy language; she started to actually cuss…I just cannot believe that she was just cussing and using those F-bombs in front of all these kids…I’m sure she’s loved in Chicago, and many kids are idolizing her and stuff, but that’s not how a WNBA athlete should react.”

For the Sky’s part, head coach Tyler Marsh fully supported Cloud, especially in light of Kanter’s stunt of “declaring” for the WNBA draft and “announcing” his transition to a woman.

“I just told the team that I’m proud of how we ride for each other,” Marsh said. “She’s passionate, and she’s passionate about the things she believes in, she’s passionate about her teammates and we’re passionate about her.”

Marsh also had a message for Kanter.

“I think that there’s so much good things about this league and so many good things about the play of these players, and if you come to a game, you should probably come to enjoy the basketball and that seems pretty simple to me. I think these players deserve that and have earned that. Being a former basketball player, you should understand and feel that too,” Marsh said.

Now, Indiana Lt. Governor Micah Beckwith is weighing in on the incident.

“I was appalled by what happened during the Indiana Fever game last night,” Beckwith posted on X. “Chicago’s Natasha Cloud threatened former NBA player and future WNBA first-round pick Enes Kanter. There is simply no place for this type of woman-on-woman violence in our society and it needs to stop.”

Kanter has to rely on stunts such as these to stay relevant. Hopefully, the WNBA figures out a way to keep the bad-faith actors as far away from its product as possible.
