Jackson State athletic director Ashley Robinson is on the move.
The university announced Robinson's departure on Aug. 19, congratulating him on being hired to fill the same position at Texas Southern.
He will replace Kevin Granger, who was placed on administrative leave in June 2025 and fired last March.
Paula L. Jackson has served as the interim athletic director since August 2025.
Robinson, a Jackson native, has spent eight years as JSU's athletic director. He was hired from Prairie View A&M, where he spent five years as that school's AD. His career also includes a one-year stint as Mississippi Valley State's athletic director in the 2012-13 school year.
During his tenure, Robinson has been responsible for several notable coaching hires, including football coaches Deion Sanders and T.C. Taylor, men's basketball coaches Mo Williams and Trey Johnson, and women's basketball coach Margaret Richards. He also helped reinstate JSU's golf teams in 2025, which had been on hiatus since 2017.
Under Robinson, JSU has won 32 SWAC titles, including three in football, five regular season and three postseason in women's basketball and one regular season in men's basketball. In 2024, the Tigers football team won its first Celebration Bowl title, being crowned HBCU national champions.
In the 2025-26 school year, JSU won SWAC regular season championships in soccer, bowling and women's tennis, and the Tigers won the overall men's outdoor track and field title.
JSU's success this past year won them the conference Commissioner's Cup for the first time in 15 years.
