Jacksonville Jaguars executive vice president of football operations Tony Boselli was named to the NFL’s Competition Committee on Aug. 25.
The 12-person committee, in existence since the AFL-NFL merger in 1968, is one of the most influential in the league, responsible for evaluating all aspects of the game and proposing rule changes or new rules. Proposals presented to the team owners require a 75% “yes” vote (24 out of 32 teams) to pass.
The committee is co-chaired by Rich McKay (Atlanta Falcons executive) and Stephen Jones (Dallas Cowboys CEO/executive vice president) and includes executives Katie Blackburn (Cincinnati Bengals executive vice president), John Lynch (San Francisco 49ers general manager), John Mara (New York Giants CEO/co-owner) and Boselli, and coaches Sean McVay (Los Angeles Rams), Todd Bowles (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Kevin O’Connell (Minnesota Vikings), Sean Payton (Denver Broncos), Demeco Ryans (Houston Texans) and Mike Vrabel (New England Patriots).
Departing the committee after the 2025 season were former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, former Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott and former Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier.
In a statement, Boselli said: “I have always viewed the game of football – and the institutions that support it – as sacred. I felt that way when I entered the National Football League as a player more than 30 years ago and I feel an even greater responsibility to it today.
“It is an honor to serve on the Competition Committee and to represent the best interests of the game, the NFL and all 32 clubs. I look forward to joining the other members of the committee and continuing their good work as we thoroughly study the game, protect its integrity and continue to evolve and grow it for future generations of players and fans.”
The competition committee generally meets before and during the Scouting Combine and ahead the NFL’s Annual Meeting.
Boselli and Lynch are members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame as players, Mara and Jones Super Bowl champions as executives and McVay and Payton Super Bowl champions as coaches.
Boselli, the Jaguars’ first-ever draft pick in 1995, re-joined the organization in February 2025 to lead the football side of the front office. The Jaguars went 13-4 last year.
