Joey Logano is feeling uncertain about next week’s NASCAR Cup Series regular-season finale at the Daytona International Speedway. NASCAR is introducing a new rules package for the 400-mile race, leaving the driver of the No. 22 scratching his head about what to expect.
In an attempt to reduce drag, NASCAR is shortening the rear spoiler from seven inches to four at Daytona. It is the same spoiler height for intermediate tracks.
In addition, NASCAR is reducing horsepower from 510 to 465 for an adjustment to reduced downforce. While NASCAR expects single-car runs to be faster, pack-racing speed should stay the same as before.
Joey Logano on Daytona rules change: ‘I don’t know how to feel’Following his victory in last Saturday’s Cook Out 400 at Richmond, Logano appeared on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio to discuss his recent momentum.
At one point, the Team Penske star was below The Chase cut line. Over the last few weeks, the three-time Cup champion has leapt to ninth in the standings and collected two wins at North Wilkesboro and Richmond, respectively.
With two races remaining until The Chase, Logano hopes to climb higher in the standings. While Logano feels confident about his chances of doing so at New Hampshire this weekend, he is not sure about Daytona next week.
Logano also believes every driver feels the same given the new rules package.
“There’s only two races left, but Loudon we feel really good about, which is good. Daytona, I don’t know how to feel. I don’t know if anyone knows how to feel about Daytona with the new rules package. Even after qualifying, we’re not going to know anything without practice. We’ll see how that goes. Who knows?” Logano said.
The Cup Series will not host a practice session prior to next week’s race at Daytona. Drivers will get to run single-car qualifying, which will be their only track time prior to the 160-lap race on Saturday, August 29.
Daytona is set to host the final race before The Chase. Heading into New Hampshire, nine Chase spots still hang in the balance.
A look at Joey Logano’s recent momentumFive races ago, Logano sat 17th in the points standings, the first driver below The Chase cut line.
The Connecticut native proceeded to put on a clinic at North Wilkesboro Speedway, leading a career-high 323 of 450 laps on his way to his first victory of the 2026 season. Logano moved above the cut line following the win.
The 36-year-old followed up with a third-place result at Indianapolis, a 14th-place effort at Iowa, and a victory at Richmond last Saturday. Once a threat to be eliminated from Chase contention, Logano is now ninth in the points standings with a 142-point cushion over the cutoff.
Logano is seeking his fourth Cup Series title in 2026, which would tie him with Jeff Gordon as the two standalone four-time champions of the series. His previous title wins came in 2018, 2022, and 2024.
