Kalen DeBoer updates status of injured Alabama players after scrimmage

On Thursday morning, the Alabama Crimson Tide held their second scrimmage of fall camp inside of Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa.

Following the scrimmage, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer spoke with the media during his post-practice press conference, and in doing so, updated the status of a few Crimson Tide players currently dealing with injuries. That list of players included both EJ Crowell and Lotzeir Brooks, while also stating that an Alabama cornerback suffered an injury during Thursday's scrimmage.

"As far as guys that are still out, EJ (Crowell) did not scrimmage," DeBoer said. "We're really hopeful that sometime next week he's coming back to step on the football field in practice. I would put Lotzeir (Brooks) in the same category, did not scrimmage today."

"Nick Sherman did suffer an injury today, and he'll be evaluated. It's a lower extremity injury."

Both of Crowell and Brooks have been limited at times in practice over the last week-or-two, the former of which is expected to be ready to go by Week 1, per Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb.

Similar to Crowell, Sherman is also a newcomer to the Crimson Tide's roster this fall. The junior joins Alabama from Itawamba Community College, and is expected to play a depth role for the Crimson Tide at cornerback this fall, as well as a potential impact player on special teams.

Alabama is set to open the 2026 season against East Carolina on Saturday, Sept. 5.
