Mitchell played for Duke during his freshman and sophomore seasons but spent the past two years playing for Missouri, where he was a two-time All-SEC selection. Last season for the Tigers, the 6-foot-9, 230-pound power forward averaged 18.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game.

The best game of his career ironically came against the Cats last season. Mitchell scored 32 points on 13-for-21 shooting from the floor and grabbed seven rebounds against UK in the second round of the SEC Tournament.

Just a few months ago, Mitchell went undrafted in the 2026 NBA Draft, then spent time with the Denver Nuggets' summer league team. But now, thanks to a court ruling in Louisville, he has been granted a fifth year of eligibility that he plans on using in Lexington.
