Congratulations to Guerin Catholic's Emery Cardinal on being voted Preseason Player of the Year! Cardinal, an Iowa commit, clocked 73 blocks and a career-high 335 kills on .424 hitting. She also notched 15 digs and her first career assist, and enters her senior year with 152 blocks and 531 kills for her career.
Here are the top performers from Saturday.
Ashlyn Baker, MississinewaThe senior libero served up 16 aces and logged 18 digs in her first six sets of the season. Baker, whose efforts contributed to wins over Fort Wayne South Side, Fort Wayne Northrop and New Haven, also had a couple assists. She has 707 career digs.
Rachel Bonde, Trinity LutheranBonde started her junior season strong, totaling 46 kills (.367 hit%), six blocks, two digs and four assists in 13 sets. Trinity Lutheran went 0-3, but those losses were to Evansville Mater Dei and 4A foes Lawrence North and Castle. It plays Center Grove on Monday.
Bristyn Bonewitz, Huntington NorthBonewitz, a junior setter, clocked 80 assists in four matches, led by 23 vs.Frankfort and 21 vs. Blackford, both 2-1 wins. She also clocked six kills on .263 hitting, five aces, 21 digs and a couple blocks.
Caylee Brown, New PalestineBrown registered 13 kills with only one error on 23 attempts in a five-set win over Scecina. She also had three digs.
Finley Dakin, Tri-WestDakin cleared 1,000 career digs. She finished the day with over 50 digs across three matches at the Providence Invite.
Addie Doak, Hamilton HeightsDoak helped the Huskies win the Crawfordsville Invite, picking up 26 digs, five assists and three aces in wins over Crawfordsville, Faith Christian and Parke Heritage.
Audrey Ferguson, BrownsburgThe sophomore setter averaged 5.2 assists per set, totaling 52 across four matches, highlighted by a 23-assist outing vs. North Central. Ferguson also had 14 digs, seven of which came vs. Southwood, and six aces.
Ella Oskey, Fort Wayne CarrollThe senior setter was very active in wins over Plainfield and Westfield, picking up 78 assists, three kills and six blocks in six sets.
Anna McCullough, PennMcCullough, a senior outside, piled up 23 kills in six sets with a .280 hit%. She also recorded her first ace of the season, totaled four blocks and dug out 23 shots.
Paige Rudolph, WestfieldRudolph totaled 17 kills in seven sets, helping her team to a four-set win over Plainfield before a 3-0 loss to Carroll. She also blocked a couple shots and picked up 19 digs.
Sarah Stegall, Fort Wayne CarrollThe Notre Dame commit registered 32 kills and hit .339, leading the Chargers to three-set wins over the Rocks and Quakers She rounded out her daily line with a team-leading four aces, two blocks and 15 digs.
Audrey Utterback, PlainfieldThe junior UCLA commit had 11 kills in a season-opening loss to Carroll, then racked up 24 in a four-set loss to Westfield. She posted a .232 hit% against the Rocks, and rounded out her daily line with 19 digs and four aces.
Ragan Ward, Lawrence NorthWard marked her Wildcats debut with 39 kills on .265 hitting in 12 sets. She also tallied five aces, 12 blocks and 14 digs, helping the Wildcats to a 2-1 start highlighted by wins over Trinity Lutheran and Mater Dei.
Emily Williams, Franklin CentralWilliams cleared 2,000 career assists in a four-set loss to Roncalli.
