Vincent Kompany has revealed that a minor change to Jamal Musiala’s treatment was behind the Bayern Munich star collapsing twice during recent friendly matches.

Musiala has been receiving treatment for a ‘neurological disorder’, with the 23-year-old previously describing the episodes as temporary, short and treatable.

The issue had already been known to Bayern Munich before last season and indications of the condition were present before the World Cup. However, it had not affected Musiala during official matches.

Speaking ahead of Bayern Munich’s German Super Cup clash with Borussia Dortmund, Kompany said he had discussed the matter with Musiala before deciding what could be revealed publicly.

‘I spoke with Jamal, and he said: no problem, you can say that,’ the Bayern boss explained.

Kompany then revealed that Musiala had recently made a small adjustment to his treatment plan, which resulted in side effects.

‘He made a minor adjustment to his treatment, which caused some side effects. It is completely normal to make changes to a treatment plan. It was the reason he collapsed twice within four days against Leipzig and Heidenheim.’

The Bayern boss was also keen to reassure supporters that the club has taken the situation seriously and has received more information since the initial concerns emerged.

‘The initial shock for us was a long time ago, so we are not talking about it much at the moment,’ Kompany said.

‘We have received a lot more information since then, and we have made decisions with the help of leading experts. Jamal has everyone’s support.’

Musiala’s health will naturally remain a major talking point around Bayern, particularly with the club preparing for a meeting with Borussia Dortmund in the Super Cup.

For now, Kompany’s comments suggest the recent collapses were linked to the change in treatment rather than a new development with the underlying condition.
