Lazio Keen to Sign Fringe Fiorentina Forward Who Is Open to the Move

Lazio are serious about recruiting Fiorentina forward Albert Gudmundsson, who finds himself on the periphery of the club’s project.

The 29-year-old is an Icelandic international who spent his formative years in the Netherlands at Heerenveen and PSV Eindhoven. He also had a stint at AZ Alkmaar before moving to Genoa in 2021. The versatile attacker eventually became the Grifone’s ultimate star, forming a deadly partnership with Mateo Retegui during th 2023/24 campaign.

Albert Gudmundsson Has Been Struggling at Fiorentina

Thanks to his exploits at the Luigi Ferraris, Gudmundsson was wanted by the biggest clubs in Serie A, but ended up joining Fiorentina in the summer of 2024 on a €17 million transfer. However, the skilful forward was never able to replicate his Genoa heroics in Florence. On Saturday, he was in the starting lineup as the Viola went on to suffer an embarrassing 0-3 defeat at home to Frosinone.

Lazio Enquire About Gudmundsson

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Gudmundsson could be on his way out of Fiorentina, especially following the imminent arrival of Torino winger Alieu Njie. The transfer market expert reveals that Lazio have rekindled their old interest in the Icelandic player, contacting the Tuscan club to enquire about the costs of the operation.

Pedulla adds that Lazio are ‘very keen’ to sign the 29-year-old, who is open to making the move to the Italian capital. The player is tied to Fiorentina with a contract valid until June 2029, and Transfermarkt estimates his value at €12 million.

What Role Would Gudmundsson Play at Lazio

Gudmundsson primarily features as a second striker (or an attacking midfielder), so his arrival would help Gennaro Gattuso switch to a 4-2-3-1 formation when needed. He is also capable of playing on the wings, particularly the left flank, as he can cut to the middle and shoot with his prolific right foot. Hence, he could vie for a starting role against Mattia Zaccagni in Lazio’s current 4-3-3 system.
