Detroit Lions quarterback Josh Dobbs is not happy with the way that the New England Patriots handled his release from the team.
The biggest gripe for the veteran signal-caller was the timing of the release.
It came nearly two weeks after free agency, putting Dobbs in a tough spot on the open market. He missed the initial rush of the free agency period, and an argument could be made that it might have limited his opportunities.
“It was a weird offseason because it was my first time not having OTAs and everything, and that was just by the nature of my situation in New England, with the timing. That was very frustrating, the way they handled that,” Dobbs said, via Pro Football Talk's Michael David Smith.
Dobbs eventually agreed to a one-year deal with the Lions on Sunday.
Timing aside, the Patriots probably don't feel bad about their decision to move forward with Tommy DeVito as the top backup quarterback behind Drake Maye. DeVito has had an impressive training camp in his second year in Josh McDaniels' offense.
The Patriots also have a young prospect developing behind the scenes with rookie sixth-round pick Behren Morton.
As for Dobbs, he will now try to make up for lost time in Detroit, where Jared Goff is the starting quarterback and Luke Altmeyer is the young prospect in training.
