Longhorns offense 'too sloppy' for Sarkisian during Texas’ scrimmage

Texas took the field for their second scrimmage today and it seems the defense, once again, got the best of the offense. Steve Sarkisian described the offense as “too sloppy" for his liking following the scrimmage at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium.

According to reports, the defense notched four turnovers, including a Kosi Okpala pick six. It’s unknown the context of the other turnovers or who committed them, but Sarkisian wasn’t happy with his offense. 

Despite the misses, it seems the offense did make some plays. Arch Manning started the scrimmage “inefficient” but found his footing late, finding Wingo and Mosley for scores late.

The run game seems to have been a real strength coming into the scrimmage, but didn’t translate the way Sarkisian was hoping. Overall, it wasn’t a memorable day for the offense at large. 

From reports, it seems the offense had a strong week leading up to the scrimmage. Without context, it’s hard to know how much of a concern this could be. The temperature being above 100 degrees couldn’t have been helpful but it’s far from an explanation.

Says the team ran 120 plays on the turf that was at 105º.

Sarkisian seemingly made a point to “call out” the offense during his press availability today. The next two weeks will be massive for Arch Manning and the Texas offense to find its footing before the Ohio State game.
