Liverpool are spending big once again.
Sporting director Richard Hughes already splashed out £100m on Victor Munoz and Jeremy Jacquet - as well as securing an expensive loan deal for Ronald Araujo.
The Scottish exec has now sanctioned a £123m deal for Bradley Barcola - bringing the total spend since last summer to around £670m.
Gakpo to be sold?Naturally some outgoings will be required to balance the books. The 2024/25 Premier League champions have managed to rake in £30m for Curtis Jones - who has joined Inter Milan.
But the sales won’t stop there since interest has also been declared in Federico Chiesa, Stefan Bajcetic and Harvey Elliott.
The biggest sacrifice however is set to be Cody Gakpo. The 27-year-old has got his career under Andoni Iraola off to a great start - netting in the opening day draw at Newcastle.
With a long contract - worth £250k per week - the Netherlands’ international is sure to attract big money in the market however.
Man City prepare bid for priority target GakpoRoberto De Zerbi at Spurs would like Gakpo to lead his new attacking revolution - having recruited Savio and Omar Marmoush from City.
And Enzo Maresca’s side - having offloaded those two fringe players - are set to replace them with the kind of versatility that Gakpo can provide.
It’s now being claimed in Football Insider that Pep Guardiola’s successor has put Gakpo down as his PRIORITY target in the summer transfer window before the deadline on Tuesday.

Gakpo will command well over £70m“Liverpool forward Gakpo has emerged as a surprise target for the Citizens as Maresca chases a Premier League-ready attacker to join his squad,” the report reads.
“City have made the Dutchman their priority signing for the remainder of the window.”
These are crucial hours for Gakpo’s Liverpool future therefore with Iraola and Hughes now facing up to an agonising decision.
Gakpo has blown hot and cold for the Reds - ever since signing from PSV for around £37m back in January 2023. He was a star of the 2024/25 Premier League title win under Arne Slot but suffered a regression last term.
Gakpo had a good FIFA World Cup for the Oranje however and looks the ideal fit for an Iraola attack.
The Merseysiders need to cut their cloth accordingly however and don’t be surprised if Gakpo is moved on for a big fee before the window closes.
