The New York Yankees wrapped up their weekend series against the Toronto Blue Jays with an 8-3 win on Sunday, improving to 74-56 on the season.

They’ll have Monday off before hosting the Houston Astros for a three-game series beginning Tuesday night.

Before the series, the Yankees announced some notable roster moves Monday afternoon.

Yankees Demote 27-Year-Old Pitcher

Just over 24 hours after calling him up to replace left-handed pitcher Ryan Weathers, who landed on the IL with a left forearm sprain, the Yankees are sending right-handed pitcher Brendan Beck back to the minor leagues.

“Today, the Yankees optioned RHP Brendan Beck to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre,” the Yankees posted on social media.

Not long after sending Beck to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the Yankees called up right-handed reliever Justin Topa.

Beck’s MLB Career

The Yankees drafted Beck in the second round of the 2021 MLB Draft. He received his first MLB call-up earlier this season and made two appearances, including one start, before the Yankees sent him back to the minors.

Beck went 0-1 with a 9.45 ERA, four strikeouts and a 1.80 WHIP across 6.2 innings in the majors.

However, he’s been exceptional at Triple-A. Beck has appeared in 22 games, going 9-2 with a 2.75 ERA across 121.0 innings. He’s also recorded 133 strikeouts and a 1.05 WHIP.

Yankees Right Now

New York has dealt with a plethora of injuries throughout the season, particularly over the last two months, but the Yankees have managed to stay afloat despite them.

They remain just 3.0 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays for both the AL East lead and the best record in the American League.

After playing a three-game series against the Astros from Tuesday through Thursday, the Yankees will quickly turn around and welcome the Boston Red Sox for a four-game series. One of those games will serve as a makeup for an earlier meeting this season.
