NFL media bringing back big-name talent as part of ramp-up

The NFL media space just got a little more familiar and confusing. Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports is reporting that NFL Media is bringing back three former NFL Network personalities in Andrew Siciliano, Colleen Wolfe and Michael Yam, as well as adding Trevor Sikkema and Brett Kollmann, who both host podcasts among other things.

The five hires will appear on NFL+, the NFL app, the NFL YouTube feed, and the NFL Channel, which is one of those FAST (free ad-supported streaming television) channels you can watch on Pluto, Tubi, Roku or anywhere you can stream free, non-network television.

Siciliano, Wolfe and Yam all used to work for the NFL Network. Earlier this year the NFL bought 10% of ESPN for a billion dollars. As part of that deal, they gave NFL Network and the RedZone Channel to ESPN. According to Glasspiegel, Wolfe and Yam will also continue to work for ESPN this year.

It sounds like the NFL bought a company and, in the process, gave that company all their channels and employees. Now they’re re-signing some of the employees who they already technically employ since they own part of that other company. And a couple of the employees will continue to be employed by both companies? I

As long as everyone is happy and Kyle Brandt and Pete Schrager get to hang out again, I guess that’s the only thing that matters. If there are any problems the accountants will figure it out.

The main takeaway here is that the NFL has not given up on producing their own high-quality content. In fact, these signings signal a renewed focus. While they let ESPN run the NFL-branded channels, they are shifting their attention and resources to streaming and they’re starting with some familiar faces.
