Not Hall or Lewis-Skelly: Man Utd decide on third left-back option who played at World Cup this summer

Manchester United have reportedly added RB Leipzig captain David Raum to their left-back shortlist.

According to The Guardian, United may assess the defender in the coming weeks if they continue to have no joy with Lewis Hall.

Raum has spent the last four years with RB Leipzig and has played all of his football career in his native Germany thus far.

He represented his nation at the World Cup this summer, making one substitute appearance in the 7-1 thrashing of Curacao and featuring for the full 90 minutes of the Germans’ group-stage defeat to Ecuador.

The 28-year-old poses as a considerably more experienced option than United’s other targets for the left-hand side of defence, with Hall and Myles Lewis-Skelly the two players being most heavily linked with moves to Old Trafford in recent days.

Of the pair, INEOS have set their sights more firmly on Hall, despite being offered Lewis-Skelly by Arsenal this week.

The 19-year-old himself is said to have no desire to leave the Emirates, while Hall, on the other hand, is keen on a move to Old Trafford, but is considered off limits by Newcastle United.

Any deal for the Magpies star would likely command a fee in the region of £60 million, which could well price United out of an approach this time around.

They do not view the left-back position as high a priority as the midfield is; another midfielder is expected to be brought in before next month’s deadline in order to complete a much-needed rebuild for Michael Carrick.

However, links with targets have – from fans’ perspective – been concerningly quiet over the last month.
