Jordyn Tyson’s first NFL season is going to start later than the New Orleans Saints hoped.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Monday that the rookie wide receiver is expected to miss roughly two months with the hamstring injury he suffered during last week’s joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The timeline takes Tyson well beyond Week 1 and quickly revived theinjury concerns that followed him into the 2026 NFL Draft.
NFL World Sounds The Alarm on Jordyn Tyson’s HamstringTyson went down Aug. 13 after catching a pass near the sideline, slipping and being pushed from behind. Head coach Kellen Moore confirmed the following day that Tyson had injured his right hamstring but initially declined to set a recovery timeline.
Monday’s report supplied one, and the reaction was immediate.
“This is not the worst-case scenario for the rookie WR and the Saints. But it’s close,” Saints columnist Jeff Duncanwrote on X.
Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer pointed directly back to Tyson’s pre-draft evaluation.
“Durability was a major concern on Jordyn Tyson pre-draft, and he did have a hamstring issue previously,”Breer wrote, calling the latest injury a “tough blow” for New Orleans.

Outside medical analysis was similarly cautious. Dr. Jesse Morse described the injury as a “likely grade 2 right hamstring strain” in hisanalysis. It’s’ pertinent to note that Morse has not examined Tyson, and the Saints have not publicly announced an official grade for the injury.
The approximately two-month absence comes from Rapoport’s reporting, while the grade is Morse’s outside analysis rather than a team diagnosis.
Saints Lose Major Piece of Tyler Shough’s OffenseTyson was the No. 8 overall selection in April after producing 61 receptions for 711 yards and eight touchdowns in nine games at Arizona State last season. His talent was never the primary question.

PFN’s CFBWR Impact metric gave Tyson an 81.2 score in 2025, ranking 24th among college receivers. Availability, however, became a significant part of his draft evaluation after another hamstring issue kept him from participating in combine drills.
Moore said Friday that Tyson’s latest injury was not related to his previous issue. Still, another extended absence is an unwelcome development for a Saints offense that expected the rookie to immediately complement Chris Olave and quarterback Tyler Shough.
New Orleans opens Sept. 13 at the Detroit Lions. A roughly two-month recovery from the Aug. 13 injury could push Tyson’s debut into October, although the exact return date will depend on his rehabilitation.
The Saints could also consider injured reserve when rosters are finalized. Under current IR rules, a player placed on injured reserve during the regular season must miss at least four games.
