La Liga outfit Valencia have this week announced a fresh addition to the club’s defensive ranks. This comes amid confirmation of Pablo Maffeo taking his talents to Mestalla for the season ahead.
Right-back Maffeo has for his part endured a busy summer to date. Following RCD Mallorca’s relegation to the 2nd tier of Spanish football, the 29-year-old was snapped up by Greek heavyweights Olympiacos.
Back in mid-June, Maffeo put pen to paper on a three-year contract in Piraeus, through the summer of 2029.
As alluded to above, though, just two months on, bizarrely, the Spaniard has secured a return to his home country with Carlos Corberán’s Valencia.
As per a statement across the website and social media platforms of Los Che on Thursday evening:
‘Valencia CF has reached an agreement with Olympiacos FC for the signing of Pablo Maffeo. The footballer from Sant Joan Despí (12/07/1997) arrives on loan for one season and Valencia CF will have an option to buy to acquire his rights permanently for two more seasons.’
Valencia’s purchase option is understood to come in around the €3 million mark.
