Gary Woodland had birdied four of his first eight holes to pull within a shot of leader Wyndham Clark on Sunday at the BMW Championship.

But then the unthinkable happened: Woodland topped a 3-wood into a creek.

Woodland’s tee shot traveled just 97 yards, and Woodland was forced to drop on the front tee box, still 350 yards away on the 436-yard hole.

Woodland laid up to 132 yards before wedging to 14 feet. He’d two-putt from there, card a double bogey and drop back to 12 under, as he turned three shots behind Clark.

Woodland began the week No. 31 in FedExCup points. The top 30 after the BMW advance to the season-ending Tour Championship.
