The Green Bay Packers drafted Trey Smack in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
After two August games it appears any team that was looking for a kicker should have selected the rookie out of the University of Florida much higher as Smack appears to be a bargain.
After making four field goals in the Packers' 33-13 preseason victory over the Broncos, Smack is 7-for-7 on field goal tries. Three of those have been boots of more than 50 yards and they've all been good by plenty.
Smack actually has kicked eight through the uprights, but one was taken off the scoreboard last week in a 28-9 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers due to a defensive penalty.
While there will be plenty of questions as to who wins the last handful of roster spots in next week's third preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, nobody will be wondering who the Packers' starting kicker is. Smack has left no doubt that he is the guy.
With field goals of 51, 59, 43 and 38 yards against the Broncos, Smack continued to show that he could become a true offensive weapon for the Packers. He also kicked a 58-yarder last week in Pittsburgh.
The franchise has been searching for consistency at the position since it decided not to re-sign Mason Crosby in 2023 and Smack's been nothing short of perfect.
Here's a bit of reaction after Smack's early kicking display:
Look at Matt LaFleur’s face after Trey Smack just hit a 59-yard field goal.
He’s one of us… 😂 pic.twitter.com/mnUe3VfFwJ
Trey Smack so cold he didn’t even wait for the net to come up https://t.co/qs3BS4M7Vf

I can’t wait to watch Trey Smack kick a game winning FG for the Packers in the Super Bowl. https://t.co/CB3YNxwabw
— Kurt Benkert (@KurtBenkert) August 22, 2026The Packers have found themselves an absolute dude in kicker Trey Smack. Nails this 59-yard kick, and is now 3-for-3 on 50+-yard kicks in the preseason (he’s 6-for-6 overall).
Set the record for 50+-yard FGs at Florida (10-for-13) and now he can’t miss in Green Bay. pic.twitter.com/uvXdnGeadY
Let’s all agree on 3 things:
1) Trey Smack clearly has a leg
2) We understand why the #Packers spent a draft pick on him
3) Preseason makes mean very little until he hits a big kick in the regular season https://t.co/QiwCTtrU8k
