Detroit’s 2026 first- and second-round draft picks, J.P. Hurlbert and Victor Plante, are both on the projected all-freshman team by College Puck NXT. The website is dedicated to reporting on college recruiting, player movement and related subjects. A committee of 40 voters selected the team.
The Nashville Predators also had two players on the first team.
The first team includes Wyatt Cullen (10th, Nashville Predators), Hurlbert (23rd, Red Wings) and Plante (47th, Red Wings) up front, with Chase Reid (seventh, Seattle Kraken) and Tommy Bleyl (31st, Predators) on defense and Ryder Fetterolf (125th, Carolina Hurricanes) in net.
Hurlbert will be playing at the University of Michigan while Plante will be joining two brothers (Max and Zam) at Minnesota Duluth. Max Plante is also a Red Wings prospect, while Zam is a Pittsburgh Penguins picks. Their father, Derek Plante, played 450 NHL games with four different teams.

Fetterolf is playing at Penn State, while Cullen is playing at Minnesota and Chase Reid is playing at Michigan State.
Detroit boasts another important freshman in goalie Rudy Guimond. He will be at Harvard battling for playing time. He is coming off an exceptional tenure with the Moncton Wildcats in the QMJHL where he played with Bleyl.
