The Houston Texans are already testing the market to see if they can find another wide receiver in place of Jayden Higgns, including inquiring on New England Patriots' Kayshon Boutte.
Could another AFC wide receiver make sense?
According to KPRC 2 Sports' Aaron Wilson, the Texans have also reached out to the Baltimore Ravens to inquire about former first-round pick Rashod Bateman. No deal is imminent, but an offer could be thrown on the table.
Bateman has been a consensus No. 3 weapon in Baltimore for most of his career. Drafted out of Minnesota in 2021, he's coming off a career low in receptions (19), receiving yards (224) and touchdowns (2) in seasons he's played more than 12 games.
But for the majority of his tenure with the Ravens, Bateman has been consistent as a third option. In 2024, he regained his confidence, totaling a career-high 756 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
But much like the Patriots surrounding rumors of Boutte, Baltimore is also trying to win in Year 1 under Jesse Minter.
Why would an AFC franchise be willing to help out another team that could eliminate them in the postseason for a cheap return?
And even if Bateman can hit his stride and become a stable No. 2 in Houston opposite Nico Collins, he's an injury to Zay Flowers away from making it back into the rotation and playing significantly as a top-two weapon for Lamar Jackson in the AFC North.
With Higgins sidelined because of a torn ACL, Houston needs a legitimate No. 2 weapon to pair with Collins. Right now, the options on the roster are built more as contributors instead of game-changers who could fill the void if Collins were to miss a game or two.
Right now, the Texans need a receiver to upgrade the offense.
The lone problem? They're either not getting a big enough name or settling for a lower-tier option but giving up primetime capital.
