Little League Baseball New Jersey District 18 administrator and former Brick Little League President Michael S. Desmond passed away Monday. He was 45.

Desmond was the Brick league president from 2021 to 2024 and remained on the board of directors; he began running District 18 in 2025. A district member, Toms River, sent a team to the Little League Softball World Series this year.

District 18 covers youth baseball and softball leagues located throughout Ocean County including Brick as well as Barnegat, Beachwood, Pine Beach, Berkeley Township, Jackson, Lacey, Lakewood, Manchester and others.

"There are simply not enough words to express the immense loss we are all feeling. As an organization and as a community, we are shocked, heartbroken, and deeply saddened by Mike's passing," a statement from Brick Little League leaders said. "In so many ways, Mike was Brick Little League."

Asbury Park Press reporter Daniel Radel's children played in Brick Little League and he coached teams alongside Desmond.

"Mike Desmond was a pillar in the community," Radel said. "He led by example. If you watched him interact with the kids at Brick Little League, he knew each one's name, he knew how they did in their last game and he made them feel important. He dreamed big, not just for his two sons, but for all the kids in town. People are not ever going to forget Mike Desmond."

Desmond was a lifelong Brick resident who played in the township's Little League as a child and attended Brick Township High School. He graduated from Stockton University in 2004 for marketing and was working as an account executive at GTreasury according to his LinkedIn.

His immediate survivors are Maureen, his wife, and sons Brendan and Derek.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 18 from 3 pm to 7 p.m. at Weatherhead Young Funeral Home, 885 Mantoloking Road, Brick, NJ 08723. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19 at Church of the Visitation.
