Clay Travis is making his return to sports media with a new venture. Earlier this year, Travis trademarked “Sport & State” and its logo, with the filing describing an internet content brand centered on sports and political news and commentary.
Now, Travis has officially unveiled the company, giving fans and sports personalities their first look at what he plans to build.
Sports Personalities and Fans Share Mixed Reactions on Clay Travis’ New VentureOn X, Travis shared the link to the new site.
“Good morning. I have a new sports media company,” he wrote. “Welcome to Sport & State. My welcome column telling you what the site will be and where I see media going. This will be fun.”
The announcement quickly started drawing attention across sports media.
Riley Gaines, host of the “Riley Gaines Show” on Fox News, offered her support.
OutKick reporter Bobby Burack also highlighted the scale of the launch.
“Clay Travis has launched his new sports site with both written content and a full live video schedule,” Burack said. “This company is going to crush it and immediately become one of the most influential sports companies on the internet. Congrats to Clay and all involved. 👊👊”
Fans also joined the conversation, and some focused on what Travis could bring to a sports media space.

“Clay, I actually read that whole thing,” a user wrote. “Congrats on the new company, and I’ll definitely listen and watch. Sports media is so incredibly liberal it will be nice to hear people just discussing sports.”
Another user wrote, “Congrats, my man! Love it; can’t wait to see where you take. Thank you – we need more like you.”
Others went even further in praising Travis’ approach.
“The smartest guy in media,” another user wrote. “Well written. Authenticity is 100% what I’m looking for regardless of how whacked an opinion may be.”
Travis built his reputation through columns for national outlets such as CBS Sports, Deadspin, and FanHouse.
Then, in 2011, he launched Outkick the Coverage, which quickly developed into a major digital and multimedia sports destination. Under his leadership, OutKick expanded into radio, video, and social commentary.

In May 2021, Fox Corporation acquired OutKick. Travis remained the site’s president and day-to-day leader for five more years before officially exiting this past June, as OutKick was folded into Fox News Digital.
However, his latest venture has already brought some criticism alongside the support.
“Will your new site be as racist and bigoted as your previous one?” a user wrote.
Another asked, “I thought you wanted to keep politics out of sports, Clay?”
That pushback continued as more users reacted to the announcement.
“What happened to shut up and dribble?” a user wrote.
Another added, “Then you’ll sell it to Fox, and they will ruin it like they did outkick…”
Meanwhile, one user dismissed the project entirely, writing, “Oh great. More boring bullshit about the WBNA. NEXT!”
Still, Travis appears ready to move forward.
The market for conservative sports and culture writing may look different from 2011, but he is betting on his audience again. Hiring and sponsorship sales are reportedly underway.
For now, Sport & State has drawn both praise and criticism, and Travis will have to prove whether his new venture can last.
