The Houston Texans will be down a key wide receiver this season.
Texans wide receiver Jayden Higgins went down with a torn ACL during a joint practice with the Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. His season is now over.
Higgins went down while running a route and awkwardly hit the ground in the end zone during 11-on-11 drills. He eventually limped off the field under his own power, according to ESPN’s DJ Bien-Aime, but tests confirmed the tear.

The Texans selected Higgins with the No. 34 overall pick in the 2025 draft out of Iowa State. He quickly became a big part of their offense, and racked up 525 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie as a great second option for quarterback C.J. Stroud besides star wide out Nico Collins.
Collins led the Texans with 1,117 yards and six touchdowns last season in what was his third straight 1,000-yard campaign. Houston went 12-5 and reached the playoffs for a third consecutive season, though they were knocked out in the divisional round.
With Higgins sidelined, Stroud and the Texans will likely have to lean more on receivers Xavier Hutchinson, Tank Dell and Jaylin Noel. Both Dell and Noel are working back from injuries. Dell miss all of 2025 with a knee injury, and Noel has had a broken finger and a lingering hamstring injury so far this camp.
The Texans will open the regular season against the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 13.
