The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, Episode 351: Juve’s goalkeeper search is coming to a conclusion

Over the course of the last two or three months, Juventus have had so many pivots to new goalkeeper targets that you’d be forgiven to have lost track of all the backup plans to the previously most recent backup plan that there were.

From Plan A to Plan B. From Plan B to Plan C. Lots and lots of pivots.

That appears to be over now because Juventus are about to bring in their Plan V.

That is because after a whirlwind weekend in which we thought Juve were back in for Emi Martinez only until they weren’t a few hours later, the Bianconeri have now found themselves a new goalkeeper. He is also coming from the Premier League, although he is not Martinez and he is not the original Plan A, Alisson Becker. It is Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham Hotspur, a player who had a rough 2025-26 season and has thus become a player that Spurs don’t want to have around beyond this summer transfer window.

Considering who Juve chased for much of the summer, it is a disappointing end to a chase to try and sign a much-needed upgrade at a position in which there hasn’t been much consistency from the previous starter, Michele Di Gregorio. Just what kind of upgrade Vicario — or even Mattia Perin — proves to be this coming season is still something that is a massive TBD hanging over this roster.
