The Atlanta Dream traded with the Chicago Sky over the offseason to acquire superstar forward Angel Reese in a blockbuster deal. The move has definitely paid off, as Reese’s rebounding prowess and ability to be an anchor on defense have stood out all season, leading to her third All-Star Game selection in as many seasons.

In Atlanta’s last game, a 95-91 overtime loss to Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on Sunday, Reese finished with a respectable 15 points and an insanely impressive 14 rebounds. However, a dive into the box score shows that Reese went a less respectable 5-for-16 from the field. The glaring hole in Reese’s game throughout her professional career has been an inability to score efficiently, and it reared its head again on Sunday.

Reese missed both a point-blank layup in transition in the first quarter and another one in the final seconds of regulation that would’ve sealed a win for Atlanta, drawing criticism online and the ire of Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy.

On Monday, a dive into the advanced analytics highlighted just how far Reese’s struggles around the rim reach this season.

She needs to put it together

Fans on social media let the three-time all-star hear it after the numbers painted her as the single worst finisher in the WNBA.

“This is insane… Reese actually has the chance to be special. But only if she works on how to actually be coordinated around the rim. She should never practice shooting another 3 until she fixes her finishing at the rim,” one fan posted on X.

“They are humiliating her by letting her iso,” someone else added.

“Angel reese is just not good at the sport I fear,” another fan wrote.

Even Fever writer Robin Lundberg touched on Reese’s offensive strugggles.

“Somehow Angel is still able to impact games, but that percentage is glaring with her shot diet. It’s just bad,” he posted.

It’s unlikely Reese will be able to make significant changes to her approach and form at this point in the season, but if she and the Dream want to take the next step and become true title contenders, she’ll have to figure out how to put everything together. If and when she does, we may be looking at the best player in WNBA history.
