Titans training camp: Standouts from Saturday's practice

The Tennessee Titans were back on the field for practice on Saturday and began working on issues that came to light in the preseason opener against the San Francisco 49ers.

With the sun beating down on a hot day, the Titans got to work and had some heated competition, with some of the position battles coming into focus. Fernando Carmona continued his ascension and has the inside track to the starting right guard position, although head coach Robert Saleh insists that Cordell Volson and Jackson Slater are still in the mix.

Cam Ward appeared to bounce back with some solid work during the team period, but the secondary still struggled and gave up some splash plays.

There were some uneven moments, and some players struggled, but as always, some players rose above and flashed. Here is a breakdown of some of the standouts from Saturday’s practice.

Cam Ward bounced back

After struggling against the 49ers, Ward bounced back on Saturday and had a big day. Although he started slow, he picked it up and had multiple touchdown passes. Some of the analysts in practice thought this could have been his best day of training camp, completing 21-of-25 passes on Saturday, including five touchdown tosses.

After a strong outing against the 49ers, Oladejo continued to show some growth as a pass rusher in this session.

With Tony Pollard, Nick Singleton, and Kalel Mullings not participating, both Tyjae Spears and Julius Chestnut flashed in the running game on Saturday. This continued the trend that started against the 49ers.

The Titans will now turn their full attention to the defending Super Bowl champs, the Seattle Seahawks, in both a joint practice and a preseason matchup.
