As protestors seemingly reached the doors of the Golden State Valkyries’ game against the Minnesota Lynx, all eyes were on the head coaches, Natalie Nakase and Cheryl Reeve, who gave their thoughts amid the debate over transgender athletes’ participation in women’s sports.
For Nakase, it was clear that there was “too much hate speech,” and she wanted others to love each other, pointing out that she likes to lead with love herself.
“In the world and just in sports right now, there’s too much hate that’s going on. Too much hate speech. I would highly suggest people lead with love. I love to lead with love.”
Cheryl Reeve’s Comments on the Ongoing Protest Over Transgender Athletes in Women’s SportsNatalie Nakase’s counterpart, Cheryl Reeve, was specifically asked about her comments on the trans debate given her past support for the community, and she appeared to double down on her previous remarks.
“I have said this before, trans kids belong,” Reeve said.
“And I think, as we’re seeing sort of politically, in this country, they’ve found a talking point that people are buying into, and the only thing I ask is that people educate themselves further on these issues and what we’re capable of doing together. And that something is not used just to marginalize a community.”
Protestors lined up outside the Lynx-Valkyries game, with some signs prevented from being taken inside the arena.
The debate around trans athletes in women’s sports continues to grow by the minute.
