There is a term in Texas no-limit hold’em poker when you bet all the money you have on your hand in a single bet. Most people know it, but for the uninitiated, it’s called going “all in.”
Going all in can be a sign of desperation, such as when a player has very little money and is trying to survive another round of betting; but it can also be a sign of supreme confidence. This is the move one makes when they know, with mathematical certainty, that they have the best possible hand. In this situation, it’s a power move.
This is the Houston Texans going all in. This is their power move.
The Texans lost their WR2 Jayden Higgins for the season due to a torn ACL at practice. But rather than standing pat and going with the receivers they have, they decided to bolster the WR corps with an up-and coming prospect for the remainder of the year.

He had recently become one of Drake Maye’s favorite targets. Now he can work as a WR2 in an offense that promises to share a lot of yardage.
To quote Pats Pulpit about Kayshon Boutte:
Boutte, 24, originally joined the Patriots as a sixth-round pick in 2023 out of LSU. Following a quiet rookie season with the team that saw him mostly serve as a healthy scratch, he showed some significant progress the next two seasons and developed in one of quarterback Drake Maye’s favorite receivers.
In total, he ends his Patriots career having appeared in a combined 38 regular season and playoff games. Along the way, he caught 87 passes for 1,327 yards — an average of 15.3 yards per catch — and 10 touchdowns.
Despite his growth and role in the offense, Boutte had been the subject of trade rumors for two straight offseasons. No trade materialized in 2025, but the circumstances changed in 2026 following the Patriots’ acquisitions of fellow wide receivers A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs. Boutte requested a trade in the spring, and now has gotten his wish.
This feels like a pretty fair deal to me.
The Patriots get a good defensive player and some draft capital.
The Texans get a potential WR2 who can complement Nico Collins and spell the rest of the WR corps.
Kayshon Boutte gets his wish of leaving New England and a chance to prove he’s worth his next contract.
The Texans go all in and everyone wins, this time hopefully including the Lombardi.
