Lakota West jumped ahead early and then shut the door in the second half, stifling St. Xavier in a 20-7 statement win on Friday, Aug. 21.
Kenyon Norman rushed for a pair of touchdowns to help West enter the half ahead 14-7.
After a lengthy weather-delayed halftime, the Firebirds shut St. X down the rest of the way to win the game.
Roman Combs pitched in on the effort with two interceptions and freshman kicker Levi King drilled a pair of field goals to help put the game away.
The two teams have opened against each other each season since 2021, with the home team winning each time. This year kept that trend going, with West avenging a 14-7 loss to St. X from last season.
Lakota West will host rival Lakota East next at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28.

Lakota East 41, Centerville 14: Quarterback Nile Knutson finished 20-of-29 passing for 268 yards with three touchdowns to pace the Lakota East offense. Marco Pastor and Dalton Chaney each forced and recovered a fumble to lead the defensive effort.

Lebanon 38, Northmont 17: Logan Schmenk racked up 178 yards on 32 carries with three touchdowns for Lebanon. Conin Zellner contributed on special teams with a blocked punt that Evan Gray returned for a TD.
Indian Lake 54, Lima Bath 43: Brady Golliday threw for 265 yards with four touchdowns, two each to Braden Tussing and Brodey Reisinger, to lead the Indian Lake attack.
Jonathan Alder 41, West Liberty-Salem 10: Drew Hughes tossed four touchdowns and Christian Amann ran for two more scores for Jonathan Alder.
Bellefontaine 35, Sidney 14: Bellefontaine put together a 28-point second half to break away for the win.
Lima Senior 42, Piqua 13: Myles Haney caught a touchdown and ran in another in the loss for Piqua.
Waynesville 20, Clinton-Massie 17: Waynesville trailed 17-6 in the fourth quarter before storming back to take the lead in the Battle for the Paddle. The Spartans took home the trophy for the first time since 2022.
Oak Hills 49, Edgewood 20: Brody O’Banion ran for 119 yards with two touchdowns in a losing effort for Edgewood.
CHCA 28, Fenwick 26: Hudson Kreke accounted for three touchdowns in the loss for Fenwick.
Tri-Village 21, Bethel 3: Colt Camacho rushed in a pair of touchdowns and Hayden Hunt added a scoop-and-score TD for Tri-Village.
St. Marys 36, Galion 12: St. Marys avenged its loss from last season in Galion. Taylor Compton tallied two touchdowns and Piper Triplett became the first girl to score a point for the Roughriders after converting her PAT attempt.
Celina 38, St. Henry 35: The defending Division VII state champions were stopped in the red zone as time expired in a back-and-forth game.
Minster 27, Fort Loramie 17: Minster shut Fort Loramie out in the second half to complete the comeback victory. Carson Kaylor finished 18 of 22 for 168 yards with two touchdowns to lead the way.
Parkway 27, Brookville 14: Head coach Keenan Leichty got a win in his debut, snapping a 19-game losing streak for Parkway in the process.
Marion Local 34, Carey 7: Brennen Hess completed five passes, three of which went for touchdowns, to lead Marion Local.
