Trinity Rodman Leaves Boyfriend Ben Shelton Speechless After Surprising Him at Canadian Open

Trinity Rodman aced her Ben Shelton surprise.

The professional soccer player, 24, left her tennis star boyfriend, 23, speechless on Saturday, Aug. 8, when she paid him an unexpected visit ahead of his fourth -round match at the Canadian Open.

Rodman flew to Montreal after her own game Saturday for the Washington Spirit, when she scored a stellar goal in the 47th minute of the team’s eventual 4-3 loss to the North Carolina Courage in Washington, D.C.

Despite the loss, the star forward’s spirits were high soon after, as seen in a since-expired clip posted on her Instagram Stories.

“Surprised his a--, happy matchday in Montreal 😘❤️ @benshelton,” Rodman wrote in her Instagram Story, along with a video of the moment, in which she showed up at Shelton’s hotel room a few hours before he faced Brazil’s Joao Fonseca on Sunday, Aug. 9.

In the clip, Shelton was at a loss for words when he opened the door and found the NWSL star waiting outside. He jokingly shut the door before opening it again, with the couple sharing a fun exchange.

Shelton and Rodman have been publicly dating since March 2025. The pair often share fun videos on TikTok, speak highly of each other in interviews and support each other at their respective games.

Shelton, the defending Canadian Open champion, defeated Fonseca, 19, on Sunday, 6-3, 7-6(3) to advance to the quarterfinals.

“It was tough out there today and I competed well,” he said after the win. “It wasn’t easy conditions to play in. I struggled to find my footing on a lot of balls, as did he. A lot of it just comes down to grit in a match like this.”

Shelton added, “So to come through with a win against a really high-quality player like Joao is huge for me.”

On Tuesday, Aug. 11, Shelton powered past Czechia’s Jakub Mensik, 6-3, 6-1, in the quarterfinal with an impressive 73-minute display.

“It felt great,” Shelton said after the match. “To be honest, I was really happy with my return game, the way that I played from the ground from point one for me is where I want to be at. I think that the level that I maintained throughout the match was really high.”

“If I was nitpicking at all, it was just the way I served at the end,” he continued. “I kind of lost the rhythm on my serve, but I’m super happy with the way that I played tonight and the performance I came up with. I hope to continue and build on these things in the semis.”

Shelton, who’s the World No. 10 and the highest-ranked player remaining in the draw, will take on fellow American Learner Tien in the first semifinal on Wednesday, Aug. 12.
