PHILADELPHIA – Islam Makhachev extended his greatness even further Saturday at UFC 330.
In the UFC 330 main event, Makhachev (29-1 MMA, 18-1 UFC) defeated Ian Machado Garry (17-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) by unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 48-47) at Xfinity Mobile Arena, and in the process, reached a record 17 consecutive wins in the promotion.
It didn't take long for Makhachev to shoot on Machado Garry early in the opening round. Machado Garry followed the instructions from his corner, but his defense mechanisms were no match for the attempt. Makhachev controlled much of the round with Machado Garry in a defensive-minded mode both on the feet and on the ground.
Makhachev's most significant offense came in Round 2, when he landed a nasty high kick that dropped Machado Garry and nearly finished the fight. However, Machado Garry survived the blows and a big follow-up takedown that landed him on his back.

Machado Garry's first significant offense came in Round 3, when he landed a slapping right high kick that damaged the champion's eye area. He also successfully fended off a deep single-leg attempt. Round 4 was more of a toss-up, with neither man having an overly significant moment.
With the fight potentially tied on the judges' scorecards entering Round 5, Makhachev shot for a takedown and shoved Machado Garry into the fence. He ripped Machado Garry's legs out from under him and took the back, where he remained for the remainder of the fight.
