The Miami Dolphins have a need at the quarterback position and the Minnesota Vikings might have an extra one to offer them.
The Dolphins decided to trade Quinn Ewers to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday and now they have just Cam Miller and Mark Gronkowski behind Malik Willis.
That's a problem because neither player has ever thrown a pass in the NFL and, as David Furones of the Sun Sentinel reports, neither one has shown enough to be worthy of a 53-man roster spot.
NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe expects the Dolphins to make a move to add a new QB2, and we believe it's possible a Dolphins-Vikings trade goes down as a result.
Who Vikings could trade to DolphinsWhen the 53-man roster deadline passes on Sunday, Aug. 30, it's very possible we could see J.J. McCarthy looking for a new home.
McCarthy has not shown improvement this offseason, and not only did he lose the starting competition to Kyler Murray, he may not be QB2, either.
In fact, The Athletic's Alec Lewis has McCarthy missing the cut entirely, with Carson Wentz beating him out for the backup job.
Why Dolphins should trade for McCarthyThere's a few reasons the former No. 10 overall pick makes sense for Miami.
For starters, McCarthy would be an adequate backup for Willis.
McCarthy also allows the Dolphins to hedge their bet for finding a quarterback of the future by giving them another young signal-caller to work with.
With Minnesota looking likely to cut him, anyway, McCarthy isn't going to cost much. The Dolphins could probably get him for a late Day 3 pick.
For that price, it makes sense for Miami to bring McCarthy to South Beach.
