What we learned from the Jets' preseason win over the Steelers

The New York Jets got the better of the Pittsburgh Steelers in their second preseason game on their 2026 NFL schedule by taking a 17-0 win.

The contest involved a heavy amount of play from backups--but that's what the exhibition season for NFL teams. It allows a coaching staff, such as Aaron Glenn's in New York, to learn about their roster.

Onlookers can learn plenty of things from such a game, too.

With that, here are Jets Wire's three things we learned from preseason Week 2:

Geno Smith is the Jets' top quarterback on the depth chart and showed why that's the case in Pittsburgh. Smith made his season debut, and while it was just one drive, he was excellent.

Smith was a perfect 7-for-7 passing and eventually found tight end Jelani Woods on a 13-yard pass for the score. Smith also found five different receivers for completions.

An impressive debut.

The Jets did the impossible and went the entire season last year with not recording an interception.

The Jets have the ability to actually pick off an opposing quarterback in 2026. It was on display in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers sat plenty of starters on offense including the Jets' former QB in Aaron Rodgers. Even so, an interception is an interception and the Green and White had two. Safety Andre Cisco and UDFA rookie Sam Womack had the other.

Through two preseason games, New York general manager Darren Mougey has shown an eye for finding a diamond in the rough.

After UDFA cornerback Mory Bamba shined in the Jets' preseason opener, another depth playersshined. That happens in the preseason, but we're seeing efforts that have gone above and beyond expectations.

Against the Steelers, it was defensive lineman Nate Lynn. He only signed three days before the game and still managed two sacks.

The Jets might need to address depth in places like the offensive line.
