Boot Camp: Tremont hopes to keep momentum going into new school year

TREMONT, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) -- There's momentum in Tremont.

And the Turs football team hopes to keep it going.

Last year's team snapped a 20-game losing streak and won a pair of games for the first time in three years. That may not sound like much, but when you haven't won a football game in three years, posting a 2-7 record is significant.

"I think after getting those two wins, it's bringing us a lot of momentum,' said senior lineman Aaron Dawson. "We have a lot of guys coming back with our running backs. I think we'll do really good this year."

Tremont running backs Eli Bohm, Troy Keever and Lucas Love return for their senior years. They hope their team can take another step forward in improvement.

And they hope they can keep the momentum started by three other Tremont teams last year. The volleyball team finished fourth at state, the boys' basketball team made it to the state quarterfinals and the baseball won the state championship.

"It's absolutely contagious. We can do good things like all the other sports did," said Love. "I think we just need to have confidence in ourselves and continue to believe."

With six returning starters on offense and six on defense, the Turks feel like they're building a foundation for football success. Coach Joe Hagaman won 34 games in six years at Salt Fork High School before coming to Tremont last year.

"I think Coach Hagaman coming in has done a really good job getting this program on to its feet and finally getting us rolling to where we can start developing a little more. And start getting to those wins, said Bohm.

Tremont opens the season at conference foe Eureka on Friday night.
