Buffaloes, Panthers go head to head in scrimmage

QUINLAN — Last week, a pair of Hunt County teams went head to head in a scrimmage to prepare for the upcoming football season. Those schools were Lone Oak and Quinlan Ford.

The Buffaloes traveled to Hobart Lytal Memorial Stadium with both teams coming out with energy ready for action against a live opponent.

Defensively, both teams were physical and in good condition. Lone Oak showcased quality tackling while Ford made plays in the secondary. However, offensively is where the teams showed different strengths.

For Lone Oak, coach Logan Turner was impressed with the team’s composure, with a key highlight coming from a 140play drive the offense conducted in the in the live-quarter portion of the scrimmage.

“Being able to sustain a drive like that this early was a positive sign for us,” Turner said.

For the Panthers, one of the stars of the night was running back Devon Williams. The rising junior had a breakout sophomore campaign rushing for more than 1,100 yards in 2025 and showed his running ability once again against Lone Oak.

Williams found the end zone multiple times with fellow running back Mason Tigue also putting up quality yardage.

Coach Todd Wallace has talked in the past about the running game being the bread and butter of the Panthers offense so it will need to be clicking early going into 2026.
