Devin Neal suffered another hamstring injury in Saints' loss to Rams

The New Orleans Saints now have another running back injury to worry about. Devin Neal suffered a hamstring injury during Saturday's preseason loss to the Los Angeles Rams, Saints head coach Kellen Moore confirmed after the game. Moore did not provide an immediate timetable for Neal's return or further details about the severity of the injury.

What's concerning is that this isn't Neal's first hamstring issue this summer. The second-year running back previously missed time during training camp with a hamstring injury before returning to practice and getting back into the preseason rotation.

Neal's opportunity to produce with Alvin Kamara sidelined was important, but he couldn't make the most of it. Kamara suffered a sprained MCL during a joint practice with the Dallas Cowboys and is expected to miss multiple weeks, which opened the door for Neal, Kendre Miller, or another running back to emerge behind Travis Etienne Jr. The Saints selected Neal in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft out of Kansas. He appeared in 11 games during his rookie season and entered his second year looking to carve out a larger role on offense and special teams. Missing more time makes his mission that much more difficult.

But Neal isn't the only Saints player injured against Los Angeles, though. Moore said linebacker Lorenzo Styles suffered a calf injury, wide receiver Bub Means sustained a hamstring injury, and Moliki Matavao injured his knee, while Torricelli Simpkins III suffered a concussion. Defensive tackle Brien Taylor also had a stinger. New Orleans should have a clearer picture of Neal's status after further evaluation. However, another hamstring injury makes his availability worth monitoring as the Saints continue through the preseason.
