If you asked anyone who Bayern Munich’s best player has been in the past year, you’d get one of two answers: Michael Olisé or Harry Kane. The English striker has been near perfect since joining the Bavarians and seems to only get better each season. While his pace is slowing down, his overall game remains exceptional. As Bayern Munich’s first major test of the season against Borussia Dortmund approaches though, Kane’s status is in question.

“That’s not certain. I’ve already spoken to the coach about it. It’s only a week of preseason, but I’m used to this quick transition. I’ve played in these tournaments almost every year in my career. We have to wait and see. Whether it’s 90 minutes or 45 depends on how I feel this week,” said Harry Kane on whether he will start against Dortmund in the Supercup, as captured by @iMiaSanMia.

Based on the striker’s response, it is clear that we will see him on the pitch in some capacity. While earning a win here is important, Bayern might arguably be able to get the job done without their best player, and there is a strong argument not to get your best player injured before the season even really starts.

Whatever Kane’s status is for the match, what is important is that Kane and the staff make the right decision on what is best for the team.
