The news appeared way early but a couple of sips in of my first (of three) cups of morning java.
Before I came across an absolutely elegant rendition of Dylan’s “One More Cup of Coffee” by Turkish chanteuse Sertab Erener.
Before I’d taken a bite of breakfast.
Immediately, I jetted off a text to fellow hoopaholics, Doc and Smarts. Soon enough I got one from another charter member, MDJD. Then a triad of emails from HoyaP, my recruiting whisperer.
If it plays out as it seems it shall in a federal courtroom somewhere, U of L will be adding former Tar Heel Seth Trimble to its already guard-heavy squad. As will many other schools be adding long in the tooth 5th year guys.
Cue the Billy Preston. Yes, we be going ’round in circles.

He’s a baller. Not someone to turn down.
Lest we forget that thirtyburger he laid on the Cards last season while wearing baby blue.
But, I wonder . . .
Wasn’t it another forward we could really use?
How will this play out in an already jam packed guard room?
How will it affect the “Cardinal Culture” Coach Pat Kelsey keeps harping about as the raison d’etre of the already completed summer workouts? Plus that quick jaunt to the islands and back.
Who on earth is showing U of L the money?

The roster is by all accounts loaded.
Absent another forward — and there are rumors — the pieces still seem to fit, even with multitudes at the #1 and #2.
The Cardinals are worthy.
Which brings me to this: Pat Kelsey, you’re on the clock.
The rah rah razz matazz is getting stale.
This is a squad with legit FF potential.
Let’s see what ya got with the Xs and 0s. With defensive intensity. With offensive sets as trusty and sophisticated as your lovely inbounding configurations.
It’s time for Louisville Basketball to once again stamp its imprimatur on college hoops.
