Marseille hoping for a higher fee for Igor Paixǎo after Sunderland’s first offer

Olympique de Marseille are hoping to secure a higher fee for Brazilian forward Igor Paixão after receiving a first offer from Sunderland for the player’s services, according to a report from L’Équipe. OM want to sell the former Feyenoord attacker in the final days of the window, against Bruno Genesio’s best wishes, who would like to keep the forward at the Stade Vélodrome.

Nevertheless, Frank McCourt and the higher-ups recognise the requirement to sell and have identified the 26-year-old as a prime candidate given his market value and the interest in his services. The former Brazilian youth international is attracting interest from other clubs in the Premier League and Saudi Arabia as well as the Black Cats.

Sunderland in pole position for Paixão

Despite Marseille trying to secure a higher fee for Paixão, the Premier League club are still in pole position for the wide forward’s signature. It remains to be seen whether they will return with a second bid though before the end of the summer transfer window.
