BCCI's just dropped the 15-man India U-19 squad for the home series against Australia A, and there are some notable names in there.
Aaryavir Sehwag, son of former India opener Virender Sehwag, and Anvay Dravid (Rahul Dravid's boy) both made the cut. But one name that remained conspicuously absent was that of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
Back in 2016, the BCCI put in a policy blocking players from featuring in more than one U-19 World Cup, even if they'd technically still be eligible age-wise.
Washington Sundar got caught by this exact rule and missed out on the 2018 edition. Before that, though, players like Sarfaraz Khan, Sandeep Sharma and Vijay Zol had actually played multiple editions, so this wasn't always the case.
Sooryavanshi's already featured in the 2026 U-19 World Cup, which means he's now off the table for any future edition under this rule. That's essentially why he's not part of the current U-19 setup. It has nothing to do with performance, just policy.
India U-19 squad for Australia One-Day Series 2026Leading the ODI side is Uttarakhand's Lakshya Raichandani, with Madhya Pradesh batter Yashbardhan Chauhan as his deputy. Come the red-ball games, though, the roles flip as Chauhan takes over as captain, and Raichandani steps back to vice-captain.
As for the star kids, Aaryavir made the one-day squad as a leg-spin all-rounder, and Anvay's in there too as a wicketkeeper-batter. Neither, though, made the cut for the longer-format matches.
Aaryavir is currently turning out for West Delhi Lions in this year's Delhi Premier League. However, he's only played two games so far. Anvay, meanwhile, has been in decent nick. He scored 101 runs across two ODIs during India U19's July tour of Sri Lanka.
That tour didn't go entirely to plan for the junior side, as they lost the 50-over series 2-1 but bounced back to win the red-ball leg 1-0.
