QUINLAN — The Boles Hornets geared up for another season of football with a scrimmage last week against the Maud Cardinals. Coach Jawny Canon gave some key takeaways from the contest.
One of the positives Cannon pointed to was the high energy the team came out with.
“The boys were excited and ready to get out there and compete against someone other than themselves,” Cannon said. “They were eager to see what they could do when the lights came on and they had an opportunity to compete against another team.”
Canon emphasized that this is a young team that will be going through a lot of growth this season. While play wasn’t perfect, the coach was pleased with the team’s ability to adjust on the fly and not let mistakes compound.
“The ability to be coachable and respond is going to be important for us as we continue to grow,” Canon said.
One player who especially stood out to Canon was freshman quarterback Trystan Thomason. The coach said Thomason trusted his coaching and made several great reads that led to three touchdowns on the night.
One was a 19-yard rushing touchdown along with two passing touchdowns.
The Hornets play another scrimmage Thursday evening against Wolfe City.
